This tips will help you run faster and stay motivated during your training, so that you can make it to the race day. Tip #1: Wear a heart rate monitor Wearing a heart rate monitor will help you stay within a target zone.  Usually you should pace yourself so that you should still be able to carry a conversation while running.  During my training, this is around 166 beats per minute, or bpm.  You may have to work yourself up to this pace, as it maybe difficult to maintain for more than a few minutes if you're out of shape.  I would also recommend wearing it on race day.  This will help you from running too fast during the excitement of the start, and have to walk during the race. Tip #2: Run with a friend Running with a friend will help you stay motivated to keep the training.  When you train with a friend, one of you will usually be motivated to work out, or they will help push you to a faster pace.  This will also help pass the time and keep from getting bored during your workouts.  There are times when you're working out, where you might not be 'feeling' it, but with the friend there, they will help the time pass, and you will hardly notice the time passing.
