Cash for Clunkers scheme finishes in the USAuthor: Phil Adams-WrightHere in the UK we have currently got a government endorsed “scrappage scheme” that many UK car owners are using in order to buy discounted new cars. The scheme stipulates that you need to have to own a car over ten years old and have owned it for a minimum of 12 months. If you meet this criteria then you may be able to get up to 2,000 off the cost of buying a new, more economical car. The idea behind the scheme is that modern cars are much more economical and environmentally friendly than older cars and in order to get the county’s motorists driving safer, cleaner cars, offering discounts for getting their old car scrapped is the latest strategy. The scheme is also hoped to boost the UK car industry as the number of new car purchases as a result of the financial crisis, which continues to limit people’s spending and the range of finance options available to consumers. In the United States of America they have had a similar scheme which has recently finished, the results of the scheme has seen 690,114 cars sent to the scrap heap and as many new cars have been given new homes. The number of American cars that have been bought has only been 40% of that number but even so companies like Ford and GM have seen sales increases for the first time since 2007.The big winners of the scheme are Toyota with 19.4% of all US sales; this is no doubt helped by their flagship hybrid vehicle, the Prius.

Pre-Determined Future - The logic in the free will vs' fate or destiny debatePre-Determined Future - The logic in the free will vs' fate or destiny debateAuthor: James ColeFate! Is it so or do we, as intelligent life forms have control over our own destiny? Do we have free will? I am not trying to prove either way, only to present the facts and one possible, logical progression of thought. The hypothetical experiments that I put forward are experiments that I believe will never be able to take place, therefore never proving the existence of fate. However, they will never disprove it either. |
